Died: 16 September 1944

On 16/9/44 he was a passenger in a Martin Baltimore aircraft AG689 which took off from No. 61 Operational Training Unit, Rednal where he had been visiting and was now returning to Hullavington. The aircraft crashed, killing David Wilkerson. An enquiry later determined that ground crew, unfamiliar with the aircraft type had inadvertently damaged the flying controls. At the time of his death he had completed 46 operational sorties.
